Tommy ‘Tiny’ Lister, who played Deebo in ‘Friday,’ dies

Tommy “Tiny” Lister, a former professional wrestler who was known for his bullying Deebo character in the “Friday” films, has died. He was 62. Lister’s manager, Cindy Cowan, said he was found unconscious in his home in Marina Del Rey, California, on Thursday afternoon. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Cowan said Lister was diagnosed with COVID-19 earlier this year. She said the actor overcame the virus, but he became sick about a week ago and recently had trouble breathing. The cause of death has not been released, and the coroner’s office is investigating. “He was a gentle giant,”

While reading the November issue of Forbes, I discovered a new social media app called LUNCH CLUB.  It’s an AI super-connector that makes introductions for 1:1 video meetings to advance your career. During one of the first LunchClub meetings, I met composer Matthew Wang who told me about the Composers Diversity Collective which was co-started by Michael Abels who is best known for his scores for Jordan Peele’s Oscar-winning film “Get Out,” and “Us,” for which, Abels won the World Soundtrack Award, the Jerry Goldsmith Award, a Critics Choice nomination, an Image Award nomination, and multiple critics awards. The hip-hop-influenced score for US was short-listed for the Oscar and was even named “Score of the Decade” by online publication The Wrap.

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures announced that scholar, programmer, and educator Jacqueline Stewart has been named Chief Artistic and Programming Officer. In this new executive position, Stewart will lead strategy and planning for the Academy Museum’s curatorial, educational, and public programming initiatives, including exhibitions, screenings, symposia, publications, workshops, and K-12 programs.
