In the wake of the Los Angeles Dodgers winning the 2024 World Series, Greater Los Angeles Scouting honored general manager Dave Roberts at their annual Good Character Gala.

For his leadership on and off the baseball diamond and his positive impact on the community, Greater Los Angeles Scouting gave Roberts the 2024 Good Character Award.

“It’s a huge honor given that it’s from the scouts, but the sentiment behind it,” Roberts said. “When you’re talking about character, that means more to me than anything and so to be recognized for this award just puts a bow on our fantastic season.”

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass presented Roberts with the award. NAACP Award-winning actor and comedian Anthony Anderson hosted the event.

“It’s a beautiful thing to watch [Roberts], what he’s done with the team, but what he’s doing in the community and what the Dodgers organization is doing in the community,” Anderson said. “The things that we’ve been doing with the youth, in particular in Compton, and building fields across Southern California, I love it.”

Greater Los Angeles Scouting was founded in 1915 and provides programs for youth from Kindergarteners to 20-year-olds. Their outdoor activities allow participants to develop leadership and citizenship skills while building character.

Each year, 15,000 boys and girls throughout Los Angeles benefit from the programs and resources that Greater Los Angeles Scouting provides. The Good Character Gala helps raise funds for their programs.

“Baseball has been a source of inspiration and unity for Los Angeles, and we are excited to recognize Dave’s leadership both on and off the field,” said chairman of the board and president of Greater Los Angeles Scouting Steven J. Rothans. “He exemplifies the values of the Scout Law and is the perfect recipient of the Good Character Award.”

Roberts has led the Dodgers to two World Series victories since he became skipper in 2016. The Boys in Blue never missed the postseason with Roberts at the helm, making four World Series and six NLCS appearances. He is also the 2016 National League Manager of the Year.

Not only did Roberts lead the Dodgers to a league-leading 98-64 record this season, but he was involved with the efforts of the L.A. Dodgers Foundation. During the season, Roberts helped unveil the Jackie Robinson Playbook to the coaches of Dodgers Dreamteam.

“One part of the organization, the Dodgers, is to play on the field but the other part of it is the fan interaction and doing things in the community,” Roberts said. “This is a byproduct of some of the stuff that I’ve done, my interaction. I couldn’t be more proud.”
