Divine Media Group, in partnership with the Mayor’s Office, will present Compton Fest 2024 on Saturday, August 24, at 12 p.m., at Compton Community College, 1111 E. Artesia Blvd., in Compton.
“Restoring The Pride of Compton” is the theme for the inaugural event, which is set to shine a spotlight on local talent, artists, entrepreneurs, future change-makers, and notable figures who are restoring the pride of Compton.
The event will feature live music performances from Jayson Cash, IAMCompton, GRAMMY-nominated producer and artist BrVndon.P, and emerging South African artist Kaien Cruz, with many more surprise performances and celebrity appearances.
Attendees can enjoy technology demonstrations, including workshops and activations by Google’s Code Next initiative, facilitating STEM labs, and panel discussions led by industry mavens in STEM, sports, film, TV, and music.
Compton Fest will honor six-time NBA All-Star DeMar DeRozan with the Icon Award, Hip Hop Icon YoYo with the Legend Award, and media executive Fuzzy West with the Impact Award.
The community honorees include Alma Farms, Divas & Drummers of Compton, Compton Country Club Initiative and Color Compton.
Also, Impact LA will host their 5th annual #KobeDay of service at Compton Fest, providing free food, backpacks, and school supplies to children 18 years and under, aiming to break The Guinness Book of World Records for the most backpacks given away in one day.
The event will also provide access to health and wellness resources from AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), Touch Black Breast Cancer Alliance, BEXA Equity Alliance, and Charles R. Drew School of Science & Medicine.
Other partners include Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles, Rugby Football Club of Los Angeles, Chick-fil-A at Firestone & Garfield FSU, Bank of America, and the National Black Musicians Coalition.
