The 49th State Women’s Convention of Southern California First Jurisdiction Church of God in Christ convenes on July 23, through July 26, at the Desert Springs J. W. Marriott Resort & Spa, 74855 Country Club Drive in Palm Desert.

Dr. Barbara McCoo Lewis is assistant general supervisor/jurisdictional supervisor and president of the convention, Bishop Joe L. Ealy is the jurisdictional prelate, and Mrs. Kathie Humphrey, is the convention coordinator.

The convention theme is “Living Holy: Extremely Committed-Strategically Victorious.’

Twenty-three workshops will be presented to educate, equip and empower participants.

“Delegates from Southern California and abroad come to receive anointed messages from chosen vessels that have prepared a fresh Word from the Lord.   Because of the consecration, fasting, and prayer before the Convention, delegates will be uplifted, empowered and will have a life changing experience,” said Dr. Lewis.

“We expect to see the ‘glory cloud,’ which is the mighty power of the Lord showing up greatly.   This move of God will lift burdens, pull down strong holds, break the chains of bondage, captives will be set free, and lives to be changed,” she added.

Thursday evening will open with recording artist, Evangelist Elbernita ‘Twinkie’ Clark of the Clark Sisters, and the Convention choir.

Keynote speakers include Supervisor Darlene Stone, Indianapolis, IN; National Evangelist Beverly Willis, Carson; Evangelist Argatha Gilmore, Chief of Police, Lake City, FL; Evangelist Joyce Rodgers, Denton, TX; and Evangelist and First Lady Jamel Jones, granddaughter of Bishop C.H. Mason, Oakland, TN.

Bishop Ealy will preach on Sunday afternoon and Mother Lewis will license candidates from the 2015 School of Licensing. Also, Dr. Lewis will lead early Morning Prayer and teaching each day.

On Friday, the conference will feature workshops by Supervisor Pia Haynes, First Lady Jevonnah Ellison, Ms. Mattie Eskridge, Mrs. LaQuita Suggs, Dr. Dorothy Thomas, Dr. Mary Butler and Missionary Sonja Simpson.

“These dynamic, powerful and interactive workshops have been designed with a range of relevant topics such as ‘Personal Empowerment Principles for Effective leadership,’ ‘How to Turn Your Pain into Purpose and Use Your Rejection for Direction,’ ‘It Can be Done,’ ‘Grief and Transitions’ and much more. Be open to receive the nuggets that will be downloaded and deposited into you,” said Dr. Lewis.

Other highlights include workshops for all ages sponsored by the Auxiliaries, Sunday morning Brunch, the Parade of Banners, Sunshine Band and Purity Class presentations, Children’s Church for all evening sessions, the COGIC MALL, and the resort golf course.
