In recognition of National Women’s History Month, the Black Business Association (BBA), one of the oldest active ethnic business organizations in the nation, will host its 2016 Salute to Black Women Business Conference, Vendor Faire and Awards Luncheon on Saturday, March 19, at The L.A. Hotel Downtown Los Angeles, in collaboration with the National Women’s History Project’s (NWHP) whose 2016 theme is, “Working to Form a More Perfect Union: Honoring Women in Public Service and Government.”
The “Salute to Black Women” is the BBA’s annual commemoration of the achievements of African American women. The BBA is pleased to announce that longtime BBA friend and supporter, Congresswoman Maxine Waters will receive the “Outstanding Lifetime Achievement Award” for her more than 40 years of exemplary public service. Hundreds of working women, community leaders, organizations, entrepreneurs, appointed and elected officials, mothers, daughters and sisters will come together to celebrate a momentous occasion.
Congresswoman Maxine Waters is considered by many to be one of the most powerful women in American politics today. She has gained a reputation as a fearless and outspoken advocate for women, children of color, and the poor. Throughout her many years of public service, Maxine Waters has been on the cutting edge, tackling difficult and often controversial issues. Other honorees include: Jan Perry, General Manager, City of Los Angeles, Economic & Workforce Development Dept., Laura Hall, National President, National Organization of Black Elected Legislative Women (N.O.B.E.L.), Dezie Woods-Jones, State President, Black Women Organized for Political Action (BWOPA), Carolyn Flowers, Senior Advisor, Federal Transit Administration, U.S. Dept. of Transportation.
The Conference will also feature the “Role Models for Success” workshop for young women ages 13-18. This workshop is sponsored by the Northrop Grumman Corporation.
The Vendor Faire gives local businesses the opportunity build their customer base and network with other vendors, while selling their fashions, art, beauty items, and services. It also provides an opportunity for attendees to network with business owners, entrepreneurs, and other attendees.
