The Dorsey Dons football team shut out the Birmingham Patriots in a 41-0 bout on Friday. The Dons took over the game and found success with running the ball. They earned their second victory of the season.
Birmingham would get the first possession of the game, but the Dons’ defense kept the Patriots from earning a first down. Dorsey advanced through the rushing of sophomore Charles Mincy. A short-range pass would give Dorsey their first touchdown of the night.
The Patriots could not make good of their second possession, earning a penalty that sent them back five yards. They punted the ball back to Dorsey without making a first down.
A deep pass to senior Elijah Boykin put Dorsey within six yards of the end zone, Mincy rushed in the touchdown, another good field goal kick would complete the seven-point play. Dorsey then had 14 points.
The Patriots came close to scoring when a pass got them to Dorsey’s 10-yard line. Birmingham’s attempts at rushing were silenced. By the end of the first quarter, Dorsey had the ball again.
Senior Jerman Gotoy made a 45-yard rush to Birmingham’s one-yard line. Antwone Williams carried the ball into the end zone.
Four regulated minutes later, Gotoy gave Dorsey another touchdown. The Dons were up 28-0 with less than three minutes left in the first half.
Dorsey ran out of the gates with another touchdown shortly after the third quarter started. Birmingham still had no response to Dorsey, unable to conquer their defense. Mincy broke free from Birmingham’s defense to execute a scoring run.
The Dons tried to complete a two-point conversion that failed with 6:58 left in the third quarter. Dorsey reached 41 points. To add more insult to injury, Mar’Quette Jackson intercepted Birmingham’s ball later in the third quarter.
High School Football Scores: The Augustus Hawkins Hawks defeated the Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders 51-42. The Hawks’ next game is against the La Jolla Vikings on Sept. 23. Crenshaw High School trounced Garfield High School in a 26-7 contest. The Cougars will play the Vista Murrieta Broncos on Friday. St Bernard High School lost 18-26 to Trinity Classical Academy. They play the Arrowhead Christian Eagles on Saturday. The Serra Cavaliers had a bye week and will face their rivals, the Chaminade Eagles, in a home game on Friday.
