The Taste of Soul vendor is bringing health and beauty products made with sea moss.

Taste of Soul offers everything from food, to information, merchandise, entertainment and more. It also offers health remedies like Da’ Moss Lady will be doing Saturday, Oct. 19 on Crenshaw Blvd.

“Sea moss is 92 minerals that your body is supposed to have every day and it’s good for inside of your body,” said Da’ Moss Lady AKA Gwendolyn Moseley. “It helps with your kidneys, liver, thyroid, helps boost your immune system—it helps with all kind of things.”

Sea moss is also known as Irish moss or red seaweed, and is a type of seaweed that grows year-round in tidepools and inlets. Scientists are researching the health benefits of sea moss, but it has already become a phenomenon.

Established in 2021, Moseley’s business was created after she became a cancer survivor and now, she wants to spread the love by turning more people onto the healing benefits of sea moss.

“I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019 and so, I had a full mastectomy and somebody gave me some sea moss because my immune system was low,” said Moseley. “I went to Jamaica and this lady was like, you need to try some sea moss.

She continued, “I had been hearing Dr. Sebi talk about it, but I’ve never had it so, the lady gave me some sea moss and I was out there taking it.”

“I felt wonderful, so then that’s what got me into selling it and that’s how Da’ Moss Lady started.”

According to Moseley, those who know, know her product and are loyal customers. Da’ Moss Lady sells body butters, body scrubs, hair serums and more. She shared all of her products have the wonderful benefit of being made with sea moss.

“I make a body butter that’s immaculate so, they always come for the body butter, but I have a lot of customers who really believe in me and believe in my product,” said Moseley.

“I sell a body butter, I got a body scrub, I got a hair serum, I got a body wash—everything is infused with sea moss, everything is made with sea moss.

“I’ve been in the kitchen like Madam CJ Walker 2024.”

You can catch Moseley in Leimert Park on Saturdays and Sunday, which is where she started.

“I have a mobile truck so, I can drive wherever you are, you don’t have to wait to get no sea moss,” said Moseley.

She has participated in past Taste of Soul festivals and this year, she was the winner of a free booth. She shared what’s so special about the family festival to her.

“I love the Taste of Soul, it’s something that I look forward to every year because you see a sea of Black people and it’s just so beautiful,” said Moseley. “It’s all kind of different foods and all kinds of different people and it’s just beautiful.

“I’m not saying I don’t like the money, but it’s beautiful.”

Da’ Moss Lady is bringing all the usual suspects but the one took look out for at this year’s festival is her body wash.

“It’s the newest, I’m sampling, it smells really good,” said Moseley.

Moseley will be holding her 3rd Annual Breast Cancer Community Health Fair on October 12 at Oakwood Recreation Park.

“If any women need a mammogram, I’m giving out free mammograms for the community,” said Moseley. “I’m trying to do early detection because like I said, I am a breast cancer survivor.

“I caught my breast cancer by accident so, I’m trying to give other women the opportunity.”

Don’t miss Da’ Moss Lady at Taste of Soul, Oct. 19 on Crenshaw Blvd. Make sure you drop by her booth and try out her sea moss products.

“It’s good for your skin, it’s good for your gut so, it has a lot of benefits,” said Moseley.
