A woman has pleaded no contest to leading police on a pursuit in a moving truck and slamming into a patrol car, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced today.
Shante Johnson (dob 12/18/81), aka Nine Lives, of Hawthorne pleaded no contest yesterday afternoon to one felony count each of fleeing a pursuing peace officer’s vehicle while driving recklessly and assault with a deadly weapon, a car, on a peace officer, as well as one misdemeanor count of hit-and-run driving resulting in property damage. She also admitted an allegation of a prior felony conviction. Johnson was immediately sentenced to five years of probation and a suspended prison sentence of six years and eight months, for which she waived more than nine months of credit for time served. She is required to complete a one-year residential drug abuse and mental health program as part of the negotiated plea agreement. On Nov. 9, Los Angeles Police Department officers spotted Johnson driving a stolen moving truck near 61st Street and Broadway and began pursuing the vehicle, according to court testimony. Johnson hit three vehicles and continued fleeing during the pursuit, which ended shortly after she rammed a patrol car in the 700 block of S. Central Avenue. Johnson was convicted in July 2014 of petty theft with priors in case BA413813. Deputy District Attorney Lisa Harris prosecuted case BA462758. The LAPD investigated the case. |
