Wendy Greuel, City Controller
She is the L. A. City Controller and also a mayoral candidate
Born and raised in the San Fernando Valley, Wendy Greuel is the consummate Angeleno. After graduating from Kennedy High School where she was student body president, Greuel went on to UCLA. Subsequent to leaving UCLA, she went to work in the office of Mayor Tom Bradley, fulfilling the position of liaison to the City Council, city departments and the community. In her fight for public issues, Greuel also helped to establish ‘L.A.’s Best’ which has been nationally recognized as an after school program and it is still servicing the youth today.
Greuel has always shown a keen interest in the community and that interest started her on the road to become an elected office-holder. She contributed to the administration of former President Bill Clinton from 1993 to 1997 and was then elected to the L.A. City Council in 2002 to complete the unfinished term of a member who was leaving. She then went on to be elected to her own full term. During her time on the council, Greuel worked diligently to merge the security forces of Los Angeles, developing several programs throughout her years of service.
Now as City Controller of Los Angeles, Greuel protects taxpayers and implements systems that serve the best interest of the citizens. She is also a mayoral candidate.
Reflecting a consistent passion for people, what better place than the ‘Taste of Soul’ festival for her to participate, where it’s expected to have over 200,000 in attendance. This year, Greuel has agreed to serve as a co-chair of the ‘Taste of Soul,’ the biggest street festival in the Los Angeles area, and we are pleased to welcome her to the ‘Taste of Soul’ family.
