Bishop James B. Walker

Bishop James B. Walker, presiding prelate of the 9th Episcopal District, revealed the pastoral appointments on August 4 at the close of the 27th Session of the Southern California Region Annual Conference of the C.M.E. Church.

In the Los Angeles District, the Rev. Joseph C. Gardner, Sr., was temporarily named presiding elder. Other appointments were the Rev. Wendell M. Oldham Jr. – Lewis Metropolitan, the Rev. Julio A. Andujo – Hays Tabernacle, the Rev. Byron Smith, Sr. – Curry Temple, the Rev. Marrix Seymore – Amos Temple, the Rev. U. L. Butts – Phillips Chapel (temporary), the Rev. Terry T. Tapley – Greater Phillips Chapel, the Rev. Oliver Buie – Christ Temple, the Rev. Erick L. Carpenter – Brown Temple, the Rev. Charles Cole – Lewis Chapel, and the Rev. Michael Wade – St. Paul.

The Rev. John Deron Johnson was reappointed to Calvary and presiding elder of the Los Angeles/San Diego District.  Additional assignments were the Rev. Bernard M. Jackson – Phillips Temple (Los Angeles), the Rev. Pansy Washington – Amos Memorial, the Rev. Dr. James E. Markham – Emmanuel Temple, the Rev. Marshall A. Sharpe, Jr. – Phillips Temple (San Diego), the Rev. Nicholas Betts – Warren Chapel, the Rev. Napoleon Goshay – Bethel, the Rev. E. Earl Hamer – New Vision, the Rev. Brian Reese – First CME Williamson Temple, the Rev. Emma Burrus – Grace Community, the Rev. Kenneth Breckenridge – Word of Faith, the Rev. Gaina Flores – Edwards Chapel, the Rev. Ann G. Hilliard – Praise Tabernacle, the Rev. Ben Covington – Rancho Cucamonga, and the Rev. Dr. Sharon LaFleur Prince – Prince of Peace.

The four-day session, hosted by Lewis Metropolitan C.M.E. Church, included greetings from Carson Mayor James “Jim” Dear who also issued commendations to Bishop Walker, Missionary President Wanda Thomas and Presiding Elder Johnson.
