Kathy and her husband Quenten Nelson are making waffles that taste so good they make customers want to stutter and so sweet they will give customers cavities at the 10th annual taste of soul.
Although the home business Wa Wa Waffles will be joining the Taste of Soul nation for the very first time, co owners Kathy and Quenten have no worries.
Kathy grew up in the Crenshaw area and graduated from Crenshaw High School and for her, going to the Taste of Soul was akin to a high school reunion.
“I’m looking forward to being a part of it [Taste of Soul], seeing all of our people. I just hope we sell out,” Kathy said.
Kathy and Quenten started the business a year and a half ago while they were renting out restaurant space in Upland to hold their Sunday brunches. The couple decided they wanted to sell more American food so they implemented the waffle.
It wasn’t long before customers began coming to Aroma religiously for the couple’s waffles.
The Nelsons will be selling these flavors at the upcoming Taste of Soul festival.
Banana with Nutella which is a hazelnut chocolate, strawberry and banana which has fresh strawberries with a strawberry glaze, plain powdered sugar and a cinnamon and sugar. All of the waffles are topped with or without whip cream at the customers liking.
The couples’ business has taken off and before joining the Taste of Soul as a vendor, they’re on the move, catering several events.
Kathy Nelson has been an event planner for many years. Right now, the couples business is on the move, catering events from left to right.
“Right now I have a three hour harbor cruise coming up, a talent show and a food tasting event in the inland empire, Sunday brunches, jazz on Friday nights so it is just one of my hobbies,” Nelson said.
Customers and or future clients interested in having Kathy and Quenten cater an event or interested in information on their Sunday brunches should contact the couple at (909)-437-3391.
