The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Los Angeles County dropped to 7.4 percent in June, down from 7.6 percent the previous month, the state Employment Development Department reported. The 7.4 percent rate was well below the 8.2 percent rate from June 2014. In Orange County, where seasonally adjusted numbers were not available, the unemployment rate was 4.3 percent, up slightly from 4.2 percent in May.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for California was 6.3 percent in June, down from 6.4 percent in May and below the 7.5 percent rate in June 2014. The comparable estimates for the nation were 5.3 percent in June, 5.5 percent in May and 6.1 percent a year ago. According to the EDD, total nonfarm employment increased in Los Angeles County by 2,200 jobs between May and June to reach more than 4.3 million.
The professional and businesses services sector showed the largest month-over-month gain, adding 3,700 jobs, according to the EDD. About 379,000 people were unemployed in June in Los Angeles County, which has a workforce of about 5 million.
