Many of you know that early in my life, I experienced parental abuse and abandonment. I also have had to overcome health issues, failed marriages and professional uncertainties.

People have often asked me how I overcame these challenges and changes while maintaining a positive mental outlook and an optimistic approach to life. I tell them it has not always been easy, and I attribute it to the power of prayer and the belief in the power of possibility.

Once I stopped believing that I was a victim of my history, and started believing that I could control my future, my life changed. In my mind, I was unstoppable and could achieve any and everything I wanted to pursue.

A change in perspective is the first step toward a change in reality. Life has been good to me; I was fortunate as a young, divorced mother to raise two beautiful human beings that have made me both happy and proud.  I have had a successful business for 30 years that has afforded me an opportunity to create financial independence and the ability to support and help others.

I also was fortunate and blessed to have eventually marry the man God had for me.  My grandmother taught me that there are different seasons we go through in life, she would say, “We all have a season that we will strive, survive and thrive.”

She was so right, and I have been in all three seasons at different times in my life.  She would also tell me there was more waiting for me, and she was right once again.

Have you ever thought about the power you would have if you understood the possibilities life holds for you? Many of us limit ourselves because we never embrace the power of possibility and envision what we can be.  We limit ourselves and we limit what we are capable of achieving.

Too many of us have become prisoners to our comfort zone. The feeling of comfort signifies our most basic needs are being met, why should we seek to abandon it? Comfort zones can create routines that are devoid of risk, often causing progress to be put on hold. If you refuse to step outside your comfort zone you may fail to become what you are highly capable of becoming.

Too often we become complacent with our comfort instead of reaching our potential.  Where our comfort zone ends, our authentic, abundant life begins. Transitioning from where we are to where we want to be, and transforming who we are to who we want to be is possible, but we must have a vision of who and what we are capable of becoming.

Sometimes this takes a shift in our mindset. How we think has been influenced by our teachers, preachers, parents, friends, and society and very often what they thought of us determined what we thought of ourselves. The power of possibility is unlimited. If you see it and believe it, you can achieve it. Do not let anything or anyone limit your possibilities.

Who we listen to and who we surround ourselves often determines what we believe and the altitude in which we will climb.  We must not let others limit what we think of ourselves and the possibilities life holds. I believe the best is yet to come for me and how I can help others find their “season of greatness.”
