Dr. Jeanette Parker

Let’s review this title…? It’s worthy of some thought. Oftentimes, many may have wondered, “What happened?” We hear “Eve, the mother of all living.” We hear, “We are all of one blood.” Scripturally based, these two things are true. In the beginning of God’s creation, “He spoke. All (meaning that stated in Genesis) he spoke into existence. God created heavens, the earth, vegetation, skies, clouds, rivers…everything. Male and female were created by them. (be mindful in the scriptures, these things are documented and proven to be true if you believe the scriptures; I do) Adam was created. God saw the loneliness of Adam.

God created woman to be Adam’s “helper” as an equal “wife” and intimate part of his life. The first marriage was proclaimed…the first marriage vows, “ Eve is bone of my bones, flesh of my flesh…It seems obvious Adam was delighted when God presented this beautiful female creation. Adam named her “Eve.” God gave specific commands to Adam about the trees in the garden, Eden, paradise. Perhaps, there were countless number of beautiful trees. God was pleased with His work. He said, “It is good.” Stay with me. Be patient, please.

God was generous in availing Adam to freedom in “Eden.” Basically, God gave Adam one restriction, “don’t eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and of evil.” ONE TREE God Commanded. If you do, you shall surely die. When the serpent came, the serpent lied to Eve, creating deception and doubt which led to Eve’s self-deception that what God had told her husband that God’s desire for them was not good enough in that listening to the serpent meant God was not fair and if you listen to me (the serpent) you will be like “God.” The commandment heard directly by Adam was minimized by Eve: “don’t touch it” (the tree of the knowledge of good and evil). Serpent said, “you shall not really die; but when you eat of the forbidden tree, something more wonderful will happen to you. So, in other words, God doesn’t know the best thing for you, I, serpent, know what is best for you. God doesn’t want you to have your eyes open, because if your eyes are open, you’re going to be like God to know as much and be as much and as great as God, himself.” Bam! This is the same age-old lie that has trickled down through all the age. Serpent, a highly intelligent supernatural being was not afraid to disavow God’s command.

He was brazen! Eve was no match for the serpent’s seduction of her mind and consciousness and conscience. Eve, in her deep desire to know what was so “glorious” about this tree of the knowledge of good and evil succumbed to the greatest temptation of all times. The methodology and strategy of the serpent hasn’t changed. “Do what I tell you to do and consequences won’t matter. I’m in charge. The whole world will lie under the sway and influence of me. I am the God of this world!” To be continued: Ref. The Pentateuch, James Smith, Ryrie Bible.
