Taste of Soul Spotlight: Peckish Snack Bar

Taste of Soul (TOS) vendors come from all around Southern California and beyond with all kinds of cuisines. If you’re a fan of Jamaican food, then you are in luck because Peckish Snack Bar is bringing some good eats. I’ve tasted a lot of samples from TOS vendors over the years working at the Sentinel—Peckish Snack Bar is legit!

“We offer Jamaican cuisine with a twist,” said owner of Peckish Snack Bar, Natasha S. White, Esq. “We are set apart because we offer authentic Jerk Chicken on the grill with our special recipe waffle.

“Our bowl of jerk is amazing and extra filling.”

White is an L.A. native and first generation American as her family is originally from Jamaica. She attended Dorsey CIP Magnet and has two degrees from USC. White is a lawyer by profession and before opening Peckish, she and her sisters had a temporary staffing firm.

“Then my sister [Angela], who is the head chef, got her culinary degree and as a family, [we] decided to go in on what was going to be a snack shop to becoming a restaurant [where] my sister would be the head chef.”

Peckish Snack Bar was established in November 2018 and is the place to go if you feel, well, “peckish.” Their menu, in addition to a delicious jerk bowl, includes a variety which includes pizza, sandwiches, salads, jerk chicken dishes, waffles, coffee and tea. They truly have something for everyone and they’re bringing some of that to Taste of Soul.

“It’s our first time and we wanted to be a part of TOS because it’s such an awesome event that brings the community and the city together and offers great exposure,” said White. “We want to introduce the festival goers to our fusion of Jerk Chicken and Waffles.”

You don’t want to miss Peckish Snack Bar at Taste of Soul on October 19. I’m sure you will enjoy their food as did most of the staff at the Sentinel.

“We are a family business that started with the thoughts of being a snack shop for the kids—we evolved into so much more,” said White. “Everyone is welcomed and we are all family.

“We grill with love and we get to know our customers by name.”
