For the last 17 years, the Taste of Soul accelerated the reach of Black entrepreneurs, working as a vital resource in the collective community. This year, that energy and support was matched by multifaceted businesswoman, Sadé Miller. Reflecting on her presence at 2023 Taste of Soul, Miller observed the bridge between her businesses and its pipeline in supporting the Black community.
Miller grew aware of her autonomy through writing at a young age. She followed her passion into adulthood and released her first book in the new self-help genre, “New Growth: A Journey Towards Wellness.”
Miller continued her expand her business frontier and carved out her power in the beauty industry as an expert in braiding and Black hairstyles. She operates the Sade Styles: Beauty Supply & Braid Lounge located at 14780 Crenshaw Blvd. Gardena, CA, and the Styles + Company: Salon Suites, found on 15725 Hawthorne Blvd #106, in Lawndale.
In having a booth at the 2023 Taste of Soul, Miller gave her full attention to the community and showcased her mark in business. Miller expressed her experience in collaboration with RastAfri, a noted braiding hair supply company.

Miller found reverence in giving back to her community; uplifting her culture is a common practice for Miller. She connected her personal experience to her passion for seeing other people win. Additionally, Miller looks at this principle of good mental health and its effect on being a well-rounded entrepreneur.
Over 500,000 people attended the Taste of Soul this year, Miller considered the feeling of a sea of locals supporting her business.
“It feels surreal to be supported by my community. Growing up around the Baldwin Hills and Crenshaw district, I always saw Black-owned businesses on every level provide a safe space and resources for the community, so it was always something I observed. Now that I am on the other side, I think about the young boys and girls watching what I am doing and thinking about one day doing it, too. So yes, it’s very surreal, and I am very grateful,” said Miller.
Miller started braiding when she was around 13 years old. Evolving her skillset, Miller launched Sade Styles: Beauty Supply & Braid Lounge in August 2020. In June of 2023, her second business, Styles + Company: Salon Suites, was in full swing.

“We had a great experience, the community is huge for both of our brands, so engaging with the attendees, being able to build awareness and even content was our main priority, that we were able to meet,” Miller said.
Miller stated the most exciting moments she took away from the Taste of Soul were the engaging and building awareness with my community. She cherished the connection that was shared among Black culture. She looks forward to participating in the next Taste of Soul and many more to come.
