Asm. Shirley Weber’s Daughter Is Running for her Mom’s San Diego District Seat

Dr. Akilah Weber, the daughter of Dr. Shirley Weber (D-San Diego), has announced that she is running for the 79th Assembly District seat that her mom will soon vacate. If she wins, the younger Dr. Weber would have the opportunity to carry on a family legacy in California politics known for strategic consensus building at the state level that’s rooted in – and deeply connected to — local grassroots organizing at home.

Burke, Ed.D., is sworn in on Feb. 5 for a new term as Chairman of the South Coast Air Quality Management District by Michael Antonovich, fellow SCAQMD Board member and Los Angeles County Supervisor. As the first African-American to chair the SCAQMD Board, Dr. Burke has served the public for more than 22 years, including 18 as chairman — the longest leadership tenure on SCAQMD’s Board.
