Los Angeles Sparks Sign Forward Rae Burrell to Hardship Contract

The Los Angeles Sparks announced today the signing of Rae Burrell to a hardship contract. This is Burrell’s second stint with the Sparks this season. She signed a hardship contract with the club on May 27, appearing in one game, scoring five points and grabbing four rebounds in 15 minutes. The Las Vegas native was drafted 9th overall in the 2022 WNBA Draft by the Los Angeles Sparks. She appeared in three games for the Sparks in 2022 before undergoing season ending knee surgery. The WNBA is Working to Get Brittney Griner Back to the United States

The effort to get WNBA champion Brittney Griner out of Russian detainment continues as the 2022 WNBA season draws near. During her opening statement at the WNBA Draft, commissioner Cathy Engelbert mentioned how the league is working to get Griner back into the United States. Engelbert noted how Griner is in an “unimaginable situation.”

L.A. Sparks Draft Versatile Competitors for 2020 Season

The Los Angeles Sparks acquired talented prospects without having high picks in the 2020 WNBA Draft on Friday. The Sparks drafted Miami forward Beatrice Mompremier and guard Leonie Fiebich of Germany in the second round and West Virginia guard Tynice Martin in the third round.

WNBA Hosts Virtual Draft

The WNBA practiced social distancing by hosting the first virtual Draft on Friday, April 17 on ESPN. One of the few athletic events that was not impacted by the COVID-19, the Draft was mainly broadcasted from the houses of league commissioner Cathy Engelbert and the Draftees.
