The contract for the body-worn camera program that will ensure greater accountability of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has been finalized, enabling the Department to now order cameras and equipment at its discretion starting today.
The Martin Luther King Jr., community hospital is now operating at high-quality services to help an underserved community. United Health Care donated 10,000 COVID safety kits to the MLK outpatient center. Those safety kits contain hand sanitizers, masks, hand tools, toilet paper, and educational materials on how to stay safe during the Coronavirus.

Acting on a motion by Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas and Board Chair Kathryn Barger, the Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to appoint – for the first time – an Inspector General to oversee skilled nursing facilities, which account for more than half of all deaths from COVID-19 in Los Angeles County. The Board also approved bringing in the Auditor-Controller to ensure closer monitoring of skilled nursing facilities immediately.

We need our public health experts to keep robust data collection on COVID-19 patients to ensure resources are distributed equitably to high-need areas.”

Local government officials use the census to ensure public safety and plan new schools and hospitals. Businesses use census data to decide where to build factories, offices and stores, which creates jobs. Real estate developers and city planners use the census to plan new homes and improve neighborhoods. Residents use the census to support community initiatives involving legislation, quality-of-life and consumer advocacy.
