Responding to a RAND Corp. report finding that deputy cliques accused of gang-like behavior still exist with the sheriff’s department, the Board of Supervisors today tasked the Civilian Oversight Commission with developing a plan to eradicate these groups.
“L.A. County has had a long history of oil and gas development and poor land use decisions, which has resulted in oil and gas operations occurring too close to places where people live, work, play, go to school and pray,” Mitchell said. “Many residents may not even realize it, but tens of thousands of people in L.A. County live in close proximity to an oil well and 73% of them are people of color.”

Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a motion authored by Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell and co-authored by Supervisor Sheila Kuehl, to create a first of its kind countywide Poverty Alleviation Policy Agenda and Guaranteed Income Pilot Program. This pilot will provide at minimum of 1000 residents up to $1,000 a month for three years.

However, she says that between moving out of her Senate office, moving into her new Supervisors office, hiring a full staff, getting brought up to speed on exactly what’s going on in the 2nd Supervisorial District, thanking voters and supporters and the holidays, all while remaining socially distant, she really didn’t get down to business until January 1, 2021.
Located on Avalon Blvd., just South of Gage, sits a small medical facility that has been waging a fierce fight in the war against COVID-19 from the very beginning. The battle started with the need for testing kits which originally were delivered to the West side of the city before South Los Angeles, mainly because Westside residents have better health insurance coverage than those residing in South L.A.
It has been a little over five years since Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital re-opened its facilities along the 105 freeway, on Willowbrook Blvd. Over those few short years, the hospital’s campus and staff have grown immensely.
