Homegoing Service Set for Dr. James Brooks

The faith community was stunned to learn that the Rev. Dr. James A. Brooks, pastor of St. John Missionary Baptist Church, passed away on May 7. Despite his advanced age, Brooks was actively involved in his church and community. According to reports, he appeared healthy and happy earlier Sunday as his members held a party to celebrate his 105th birthday, which was on May 1. Later that evening, Brooks apparently took ill and ultimately passed on. His homegoing service will be held on Friday, May 19, at 10 a.m., at St. John, 936 W. 49th St., in Los Angeles. For
