L.A. Metro To Host Three Traffic Reduction Study Meetings This Month

The Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority will hold three virtual public meetings this month to present the public with ideas for a potential pilot program to study reducing traffic, officials said today. The two-year study will try to determine if strategies like congestion pricing and transportation options could make it easier for people to get around the area, Metro stated. A recommended pilot will be brought to the Metro board in partnership with one or more cities for their consideration. Metro officials say long-term regional growth has outpaced efforts to ease traffic, and while traffic was reduced during the COVID-19

Kaiser Permanente Commits $1 Million to Promote Racial Equity in Southern California

Kaiser Permanente, the nation’s largest integrated, nonprofit health system, today announced it has awarded $8.15 million to support 40 nonprofit and community-based organizations across the nation. This includes $1 million for 10 organizations in Southern California and is part of a $25 million commitment Kaiser Permanente announced in June to promote health equity and break the cycle of racism-driven stresses that lead to poor health outcomes for its communities. Kaiser Permanente serves 4.7 million members in Southern California.

If passed, Proposition 23 would require all kidney dialysis clinics to have a physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant on site during dialysis treatment. It would also prohibit clinics from reducing their services without state approval and make it illegal for them to refuse treatment for patients based on their insurance or payment source.

PBS SoCal, Southern California’s home for the premieres of new PBS programs, hosted the world premiere of the new documentary Hollywood’s Architect: The Paul R. Williams Story on Feb. 3 at Raleigh Studios in Los Angeles. Over 175 guests attended the red-carpet event and standing room only screening and panel discussion that included legendary music producer Quincy Jones, Disney CEO and Williams’ homeowner Robert Iger, as well as Williams’ grandchildren Paul Hudson, Gayle Harvey Beavers and Karen Hudson-Freeman.

 Everytable, the Los Angeles-based social enterprise seeking to end food inequality by making healthy food affordable, convenient and accessible for all, has received a total of $2.5 million in program-related investments (PRI) from Annenberg Foundation and The California Wellness Foundation (Cal Wellness) to support the development and implementation of a pioneering social equity franchise program. The $1.5 million in funding from Cal Wellness and $1 million from the Annenberg Foundation will allow Everytable to foster economic empowerment among entrepreneurs from marginalized communities. Everytable plans to open 25 franchises owned by entrepreneurs of color from underserved neighborhoods in Southern California over the next five years.
