Holman UMC Hosts Presidential Debate Viewing and Panel Discussion

In light of the myriad of issues affecting African Americans across the nation, Holman United Methodist Church will host a public viewing of the U.S. presidential debate on Sept. 26, followed by a panel discussion featuring L.A. community leaders. The event, “What’s at Stake for our Communities,” begins at 5:30 p.m., in the church’s edifice located at 3320 West Adams Blvd., in Los Angeles, said Holman Pastor Kelvin Sauls. Connecting faith and quilting leads to beautiful results, spiritually and literally

To the average mind, a link between faith and quilting is hazy at best. But, the Rev. Judi Wortham-Sauls clearly sees a connection. “Just like God use us as ordinary people to do extraordinary things, we can take scraps of fabric and create beautiful pieces of art called quilts,” she said. A quilter for 20 years, Wortham-Sauls credits her relatives with acquainting her to the craft. As a teen, her great-aunt showed her how to make quilts with handmade stitches and another aunt nourished her interest by teaching her additional skills. Holman UMC Hosts ‘Paying for College’ Seminar

High school and community college students can learn about higher education financial resources at the “How To Pay For College” seminar at Holman United Methodist Church. The free session, sponsored by Holman Community Development Corporation, will be held on Saturday, March 12, at 2 p.m., in Holman’s L.L. White Hall, 3320 West Adams Boulevard in Los Angeles.  The Rev. Kelvin Sauls is the host pastor. Holman United Methodist Church, in partnership with the AIDS Health Foundation, continues its “HIV/AIDS Week of Impact” activities with a Faith Leaders Teach-In.  Marian Wright Edelman, founder and president of the Children’s Defense Fund, was honored with the Inaugural James M. Lawson, Jr. Humanitarian Award during Holman United Methodist Church’s 70th Anniversary Gala at the Omni Hotel on December 4.
