Metrolink Offers New Summer Travel Promotions

New resources are available for small businesses in the Vernon-Central and surrounding South L.A. community, as the Southeast Los Angeles BusinessSource Center celebrated its grand opening on May 31.

Government Offices Closed for Indigenous Peoples Day

Government offices and libraries throughout the Southland will be closed Monday in celebration of Indigenous Peoples Day, or Columbus Day.

State and federal courts will shut their doors Monday as well, and there will be no U.S. Mail delivery. Most banks are also expected to be closed. However, Los Angeles Unified School District schools will be open. Buses and subway services in both the city and county of Los Angeles will run
on a regular schedule, along with Metrolink trains. Stores, too, will be open as usual.

Wiggins Leads Metrolink in Connecting People to Opportunity

Metrolink Installs Safety Feature In Light of 2008 Tragedy

A safety feature that automatically slows or halts a commuter train before it collides with another is in place on all 341 miles of Metrolink tracks, Sen. Barbara Boxer and train agency officials announced last week. Positive Train Control, or PTC, uses GPS to avert train collisions. The technology also may be used to keep trains from going at unsafe speeds or from moving onto the wrong tracks. The system was installed in response to a 2008 collision between a Metrolink train and a Union Pacific freight train, resulting in 25 deaths and 135 people injured.
