City Workers Picket Across L.A. for One-Day Strike 

From downtown to Los Angeles International Airport, thousands of city workers went on strike on Tuesday, August 8, for a 24-hour work stoppage prompted by what their union believes is a lack of good-faith labor negotiations.

Mayor Karen Bass Signs $13B City Budget 

Mayor Karen Bass signed the city’s revised $13 billion budget for fiscal year 2023-24 on May 26, which she said charts a new course for the city — one that is “stronger, happier, healthier and safer.” The budget will take effect July 1. 

Southers Elected Police Commission VP

Dr. Erroll G. Southers was recently elected vice president of the Los Angeles Board of Police Commissioners. Mayor Karen Bass nominated Southers in February to replace Eileen Decker, who resigned, and he was confirmed by the City Council in March.

Mayor Bass Addresses State of City, Issues First Budget 

With a theme of “A New L.A.,” Mayor Karen Bass detailed her intentions to create a “stronger, healthier, happier and safer” metropolis in her first State of the City address on April 17.  The mayor’s vision was further illustrated by the funding priorities outlined in her first budget, which was issued on April 18. 

Heather Hutt Appointed to Represent District 10 on City Council 

Cheers and applause filled the chambers on Tuesday, April 11, when the City Council voted 11-1 to appoint Heather Hutt as the voting representative for Council District 10. She will serve until December 2024, when the term ends.
