‘To The Fullest’ Honors Music of Julius Eastman and Arthur Russell:  

On the evening of March 4, the Walt Disney Concert Hall nearly reached capacity for “To the Fullest: The Music of Julius Eastman and Arthur Russell,” a concert that honored two avant-garde experimental music luminaries. Presented as part of the LA Phil’s Green Umbrella New Music Series and produced in collaboration with Wild Up, the program brought together an eclectic mix of musicians, composers, and vocalists to interpret the works of Eastman and Russell—artists who, in their time, defied convention and blurred boundaries of contemporary music.  

WORDTheatre Partners with LA Phil, Celebrates 20th Year with JAZZ Re-EVOLUTION

In partnership with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association (LA Phil), and in celebration of its 20th anniversary, WORDTheatre® proudly presents JAZZ Re-EVOLUTION, a literary and musical tribute honoring jazz legends, at The Ford, on Saturday, July 22, at 8:00pm. Featured performers include Keith David, Antonique Smith, Tracie Thoms, Glynn Turman, Terrace Martin, Nedra Wheeler and Clayton Cameron, among many others.

Blain-Cruz Directs and Emile Choreographs “Stranger Love” Opera

Two African Americans have important roles in the opera “Stranger Love,” which makes its world premiere at Walt Disney Concert Hall on Saturday, May 20, in downtown Los Angeles. The creative team also includes Director Lileana Blain-Cruz, who is making her LA Phil debut. She is one of three Black women to ever be nominated for a Tony Award in the “best direction of a play” category for her directorial debut at the Lincoln Center Theater with “The Skin of our Teeth” by Thornton Wilder. Originally from New York and Miami, she is currently resident director of the Lincoln Center

Youth Orchestra Los Angeles Finds Permanent Home in Inglewood

During an exclusive tour, the Los Angeles Sentinel explored the Judith and Thomas L. Beckmen Center, the first Youth Orchestra Los Angeles program (YOLA) located in the heart of Inglewood; dedicated to the elite musical training of local youth, channeling the musical excellence of the Walt Disney Concert Hall.
