Women Building Social and Health Equity

I recently joined a gathering of Black women leaders in Sacramento to discuss the well-being of Black women in California. It was a pretty amazing feeling to be in a roomful of women leaders from across the state—elected officials, business leaders, non-profit leaders and policymakers—who looked like me, all having this kind of discussion together. It doesn’t happen often enough. The event coincided with the release of a report that highlights some striking disparities in the lives of Black women. Health Net Partners with Ward AME for Health Fair

Health Net teamed up with Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Health Braintrust, and Ward African Methodist Episcopal Church to host a free Church Community Health Fair on July 31. Congressional Representatives Karen Bass (D-California) and Robin Kelly (D-Illinois) joined Ward members and community members to learn the importance of lifestyle behaviors on health and well-being. The Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital, Watts Health Center and Kindred Community Mental Health Center also participated.
