Jackie Lacey

L.A. District Attorney Jackie Lacey Failed the Victims of Ed Buck

Jackie Lacey’s failure to charge Ed Buck for the deaths of Gemmel Moore and Timothy Dean was not because of a lack of evidence or probable cause. Her failure was a direct result of a lack of interest and political will. All of which was the reason that the sheriff’s department sought outside help from their federal counterparts to finally bring Buck to justice.

L.A. Prosecutors Can Hold Cops More Accountable with One Simple List

California is moving toward transparency for bad cops. As we learn more about the violence, biases, misconduct, dishonesty, and abusive acts of law enforcement (in spite of recent efforts by police to erase the evidence) it’s easy to focus on the role cops play in the streets. But equally if not more impactful is the role they play in the courthouse. In almost every criminal case, the prosecutor must call at least one police officer witness in order to prove the charges. Police are professional witnesses, trained to go under oath and testify as to their recollections, actions, findings, and practices. If making the arrest is the first half of their job, working with prosecutors and testifying is the other half.

Confronting Jackie Lacey: The Mamas of Those Slain by Police Demand Justice during Black History Month

Jackie Lacey this past Sunday, February 17 for their 35th Annual Black History Month program. The same DA Lacey who has been charged with prosecuting crimes in the County of Los Angeles since January 2012, over which time more than 450 killings of community members by police have occurred and only one prosecution of an officer has been filed.  It is imperative that we remember that each of these 450 “cases” are real people: sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers and community members. When people are murdered by police, it leaves unimaginable pain for the hearts of their loved ones…especially their mothers. On Sunday evening, a cadre of five mothers, family members and supporters refused to allow Lacey to smile, wave, invoke God, and dishonor the Spirits of their slain children. They confronted her in, what may be, the most appropriate of all places, church.

They saved lives and helped stop criminals. By honoring them today, we repay their courage in a small way.”

DA Jackie Lacey Refuses To Prosecute CHP! WHY?

Community Leaders and members of the National Action Network’s Los Angeles Chapter are calling for L.A. County District Attorney Jackie Lacey to step down in light of her decision not to file charges against a California Highway Patrol officer who was videotaped beating a homeless woman in 2014. Lacey noted that in her review of the evidence, officer Daniel Andrew used necessary force to protect himself and mentally ill homeless woman Marlene Pinnock who later won a million dollar settlement in the case. But community leaders called the beating, for which officer Daniel was eventually fired, “savage” and are citing
