Gil Scott-Heron ‘Bluesology’ Debuts at Willie Agee Playhouse

Gil Scott-Heron “Bluesology” showcases the impactful poetry and music of the legendary spoken-word pioneer.  The theatrical production takes place on Tuesday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m., at the Willie Agee Playhouse, located inside Edward Vincent Park at 600-698 N. Park Avenue in Inglewood.

Hammer Museum: Bruce Talamon & Verdine White of Earth, Wind & Fire

Photographer Bruce Talamon saw it all during the golden age of soul, R&B, and funk. Throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, he found himself backstage with an all-access pass to the heart of the music scene, photographing icons such as James Brown, Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, Rick James, Parliament-Funkadelic, Gil Scott-Heron, Aretha Franklin, the Jackson Five, Isaac Hayes, Chaka Khan, Al Green, Barry White, and Donna Summer. He is joined by one of his favorite subjects, bassist Verdine White of Earth, Wind & Fire.

Jazz Series Honors Gil Scott-Heron and Brian Jackson

Parkside EDC will present an evening of the music of Gil Scott-Heron and Brian Jackson on June 27 as part of its Jazz Cool Down series in Leimert Park. The series, held at LA Third Church, benefits college scholarships for students from Dorsey and Crenshaw High Schools and features LA jazz luminaries such as Barbara Morrison, Ernie Watts and Roy Gaines.
