Since its inception in 2018, the Dwan Hurt Holiday Classic basketball tournament has grown into prominence in Los Angeles. The fourth annual Holiday Classic was held at two different locations, highlighting the talents of 28 teams.
The Serra boys’ basketball team is finding its new identity with their first new coach in over 20 years.
High schools throughout Southern California participated in the tournament, including Carson, View Park, Banning, Dorsey and Washington Prep.
Junipero Serra High School announced in December 2016 that Austin Jackson ’01 was named interim dean of students following the unexpected passing of longtime dean, Dwan Hurt ’81. Principal Jeff Guzman is pleased to announce the interim tagged has been removed and that Jackson has officially been tabbed as Serra’s full-time dean.

Serra High School basketball coach and dean of students Dwan Hurt passed away on Friday. Hurt was going into his 28th year of coaching the varsity boys basketball team and 30th year coaching at Serra.
