Russell Simmons Brings Back Def Comedy Jam to Raise Money for Coronavirus Ravaged Areas

Simmons is leading a group of producers who, on Sunday, April 5, will premiere “Def Comedy Jam Presents: Healing Through Laughter,” a marathon fundraiser hosted by Cedric the Entertainer. The program will air online beginning at 10 p.m. EST, and Simmons’ Instagram page will be updated to provide more information. Simmons has established a GoFundMe page with the hopes of raising as much as $100,000 to help with supplies to assist those in need.

Nipsey Hussle and Ty Dolla $ign Headline Free #TimeDone Campaign Bringing Awareness to the Past Convictions Crisis

The smooth rhythms of L.A. natives rapper Nipsey Hussle, award-winning artist Ty Dolla $ign, and R&B Bay-area artist Goapele filled the speakers at the Greek Theatre on Sunday evening, Oct. 22 for the #TimeDone campaign’s free concert. The concert served as a launching pad to raise awareness of legal prohibitions on job and housing eligibility, other barriers that 70 million Americans living with a past conviction face after completing prison sentences.

The concert will be emceed by Hot 97 and Apple Music Beats 1 radio host Ebro Darden and 97.1 AMP radio host and “Queen of LA” Yesi Ortiz, and feature performances by the world-renowned DJ Cassidy, California-native Goapele, Orange is the New Black star Jackie Cruz, hip-hop artist and activist Mysonne, The Fugees’ John Forté and other special guests.
