Congresswoman Val Demings will deliver the keynote address for the 17th annual Tools for Transformation Conference at 8:30 a.m., on Saturday, April 22, at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), located at 1000 E. Victoria St. in Carson. The Tools for Transformation Conference, sponsored by civil rights attorney and child advocate Areva Martin and the Special Needs Network (SNN), is the largest and most comprehensive free autism/ADHD/learning disabilities conference in Los Angeles. CSU Dominguez Hills to Receive Mayme Agnew Clayton Collection of African American History and Culture

California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) signed a historic agreement with the Mayme A. Clayton Library and Museum (MCLM) board of directors to house the Mayme A. Clayton Collection of African American History and Culture on campus in the Gerth Archives and Special Collections. The university intends to begin immediately cataloguing and archiving the collection so that it is more visible and accessible to the public.

THE LEGACY OF BLACK EXCELLENCE CONTINUES TO SHINE WITH CONTINUED PRESIDENTIAL APPOINTMENTS

. Michael Drake, M.D. has just been appointed by the UC Regents to be the next president of the University of California system. His appointment will be effective August 1 of this year. Drake will become the first African American head of the UC system in its 152-year history. That’s a lot of glass to break in that ceiling, but the shattering of that threshold has reverberated throughout the higher education community, and certainly here in California. I want to join the chorus and shout with joy, even as I bear witness to similar Black excellence continuing to shine in California, and other parts of the nation as well.
