Waters Statement on the Passing of Archbishop Carl Bean

Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA), Chairwoman of the House Committee on Financial Services, issued the following statement on the passing of Archbishop Carl Bean.

Rep. Waters to Request Federal Investigation into Andres Guardado’s Death

  Rep. Maxine Waters said today she will formally request U.S. Attorney General William Barr investigate the killing of 18-year-old Andres Guardado by a sheriff’s deputy near Gardena as a civil rights violation.

   “Enough is enough,” Waters said in the announcement, a day after multiple sheriff’s department officials declined to answer questions during the Los Angeles County coroner’s office inquest into Guardado’s death. The officials cited advice from attorneys.

In the interim emergency relief package that was recently signed into law and replenished the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) with $310 billion, Congresswoman Maxine Waters (CA-43), chair of the House Financial Services Committee, led the fight to target $60 billion of those funds towards small, minority, and women-owned businesses. The bill, which is known as the Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act (H.R. 266), also provides $50 billion for Small Business Administration disaster funding, translating into more than $350 billion in small business loans and $10 billion in emergency disaster grants.
