LA County Tightens Policy on Face Masks in Courthouses

Face masks with valves were banned in all Los Angeles County courthouses under an order issued today by the system’s presiding judge.  The order issued by Presiding Judge Kevin C. Brazile also requires face masks to be worn under face shields except as required by a physician.  “We all have gotten used to evolving science and public health guidance during the pandemic,” Brazile said in a statement issued by the court.

Kaiser Invests Over $4Million to Combat Homelessness in SoCal

Kaiser Permanente officials are aiming to become a part of the homeless solution in Southern California with a $4.3 million grant to Los Angeles and San Diego for more affordable and secure homes. Those counties, officials said, have the highest rates of homeless with the least affordable housing. The grant will help to create and preserve 75 affordable and/or permanent supportive housing units in the two areas.

Nearly half a million people die every year from complications from smoking. About a tenth of them never put a cigarette to their lips – they die from exposure to second-hand smoke. Death from tobacco is, according to the Centers for Disease Control, the leading cause of preventable death. But too many people, enticed by advertising, think that smoking is so “cool” that they embrace it.
