Rhambo Emerges as Top Challenger To Villanueva, Outraising All Opposition 

Continuing to demonstrate his status as the top challenger to incumbent L.A. County Sheriff Alex Villanueva, LAX Police Chief Cecil Rhambo’s campaign announced that he had raised $212,993 in the fundraising quarter ending December 31, the most of any candidate running against Villanueva during that period.

The campaign circus has arrived. Last week, the campaign of L.A. County Sheriff Alex Villanueva disseminated at best — misleading — and at worst — flat out lies about the Black Chief of Police at LAX Airport, Cecil Rhambo, who is running to defeat him in next year’s election for Sheriff.

Rhambo Endorsed by Former L.A. County Public Defender

The first Black person to hold the public defender post, Brown led the L.A. County Public Defender’s Office for five years, managing over 700 defense attorneys.

In a statement released with his endorsement, Brown commented: “I’m excited to endorse my friend, Chief Cecil Rhambo, for L.A. County Sheriff. As someone who worked directly with him on the L.A. County prison realignment process a decade ago, I know that Chief Rhambo is committed to making our criminal justice system more compassionate and transparent and protecting the rights of the accused.

Los Angeles World Airports Selects Cecil Rhambo as Chief of Airport Police

Last Thursday, October 10, 2019, the Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) announced that following a nationwide search, former Assistant Sheriff of the County of Los Angeles Cecil Rhambo has been selected as the new Chief of Airport Police. Upon completion of a background investigation, he will replace and report directly to David L. Maggard, who was named Deputy Executive Director for Law Enforcement and Homeland Security this summer after serving as Chief of Airport Police for three years.

Congresswoman Barragán Hosted Town Hall Meeting on Compton Potholes

Congresswoman Nanette Diaz Barragán (CA-44) hosted a community town hall regarding residents’ concerns over the growing number of potholes in Compton. During the town hall, Rep. Barragan questioned panelists from the state, county and city regarding funding sources, including Measure “P” and the progress of street repairs in Compton and Unincorporated Compton. Although street repairs are the responsibility of state and local officials, it is among the top issues reported to our office. As a result, constituents received some transparency on sources of funding and spending, and were also given the opportunity to ask questions about the status of repaving their roads.

Compton Hires New City Manager

The City of Compton has hired the Assistant City Manager of the City of Carson Cecil Rhambo to be their next City Manager.  Rhambo will replace interim city Manager Jerry Groomes who was once the long time city Manager of Carson.
