The WNBA is Working to Get Brittney Griner Back to the United States

The effort to get WNBA champion Brittney Griner out of Russian detainment continues as the 2022 WNBA season draws near. During her opening statement at the WNBA Draft, commissioner Cathy Engelbert mentioned how the league is working to get Griner back into the United States. Engelbert noted how Griner is in an “unimaginable situation.”

Joneses and Miller sweep major WNBA awards

Jonquel Jones led a sweep of three major WNBA awards for Connecticut, earning MVP honors hours before the Sun opened their best-of-five playoff series against Chicago on Tuesday.

She averaged 19.4 points, 11.2 rebounds and 1.3 blocked shots to earn her first MVP award. Jones received all but one of the 49 first-place votes from a national media panel. Phoenix center Brittney Griner garnered the other first-place ballot and finished a distant second. Breanna Stewart of Seattle was third, followed by Minnesota’s Sylvia Fowles and Washington’s Tina Charles.

Undrafted Guard Becomes WNBA All-Star MVP

The WNBA All Star Weekend highlighted more events and young talent taking place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. For the first time since 2006, the three-point contest and the skills challenge was featured. The contests commenced on the night before the All-Star Game.
