Political Cartoonist Changing the World One Illustration at a Time

  This June, the Sentinel is putting the spotlight on Black men, highlighting their life and how they make a difference in the world. David G. Brown is an award-winning artist, who’s editorial cartoons have been featured in the Sentinel for the last 20 years. A gifted designer, photographer and illustrator, David’s work and merits are impressive. He grew up in West Atco, a small town in South Jersey outside of Atlantic City. David earned his Bachelor’s degree at Stockton University where he has received the Arts and Humanities Professional Achievement Award in 2011 and recently, the Alumni Impact Award

TJ Sterling is Creating a Way with RAE Comics

TJ Sterling is an artist, writer and the president and lead artist of RAE Comics, which stands for Red, Arcis, the Latin word for stronghold, fortress or house and Entertainment. RAE Comics features diverse and underrepresented characters that go outside traditional American comics mixed with Eastern philosophies, creating something unique.

Brandon Harris Performs in VERDISSIMO! Plus! at First Presbyterian Church

On April 29 and 30, The Verdi Chorus’ 39th season will finish with “VERDISSIMO! Plus!” for two performances only at the First Presbyterian Church in Santa Monica. Led by Founding Artistic Director Anne Marie Ketchum, the Verdi Chorus is the only choral group in Southern California that focuses primarily on dramatic and diverse music for opera chorus. Countertenor Brandon Harris will be performing with the chorus and shared a little bit about performing in the concert and working with Ketchum.

Casa de Rosas Opens to Housing Homeless Veterans

On Thursday, March 30, local leaders, collaborators and elected officials joined in a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of Casa de Rosas, a newly renovated, award-winning, historic campus developed for formerly, homeless veterans.

Metro Launches Ambassador Pilot Program

On Monday, March 6, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) announced 300, newly trained, Metro Ambassadors in preparation for the Metro Bus and Rail System. The program is now one of the largest of its kind in the country, and is one part of the agency’s multi-layered and reimagined approach to public safety.
