FAMS Founder Tobago Benito Speaks on Black-owned businesses in the Music Industry

FAMS or Forever a Music Store has found a new way to bring prosperity into the Black community. They look to understand the challenges in building a business and meet them with solutions—to build a legacy that will live after our time. The Los Angeles Sentinel had an exclusive interview with the founder of FAMS, Tobago Benito, he explained the overarching goal of creating more Black-owned businesses through vinyl stores opening up across the nation.

Given their cultural and educational importance to the Black community, HBCUs are the repository of much of these donations with a number of household names – and some you may not know – making big-dollar contributions to these institutions.

Today, Parkwood Entertainment and Disney+ released the new trailer and poster for “Black Is King,” a film by 24-time GRAMMY® Award-winner Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, which will premiere globally on July 31, 2020, streaming on Disney+. The new film based on the music of “The Lion King: The Gift,” will premiere two weeks after the one-year anniversary of the theatrical release of Disney’s global phenomenon, “The Lion King.” The film reimagines the lessons from the 2019 blockbuster for today’s young kings and queens in search of their own crowns.

In this day and age, society has built a system and a niche economy within the world of social media. One that produces everyday influencers and brings everyone closer to their favorite celebrities. This same structure is now a change agent in the fight for Black Lives. 

Throughout the year’s social media has put a voice to the unheard bringing to light case after case of police brutality. Since the death of Trayvon Martin, there hasn’t been a year without multiple horrific stories and videos of a Black life being taken. With the help of celebrities and the millions of users on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, the names of the thousands and counting Black victims live on. However, justice is yet to be served in its totality.
