Jalen Coleman recently graduated from Wiseburn-Da Vinci high school and will attend Temple in the fall to study sports management. His athletics, academics, and community outreach efforts would earn him the 2023 Build a Better Future Scholarship and the Footlocker Scholar Athlete Scholarship.

Scoring accuracy and a tough defense would give the Vaughn White Tigers girls basketball team an 69-37 edge over the Washington Prep Generals to win the Division III City Section Championship. White Tigers junior Yamileth Ferreira noted how she grew up with her teammates and how that familiarity is an asset. “It was just the journey playing with them,” Ferreira said. “I just loved every game.” The Generals struggled with turnovers early in the game while the White Tigers extended their possessions with offensive rebounds. The Fairfax Lions defeated the Crenshaw Cougars 74-71 in the first round of the CIF City Section Open Division playoffs. Rebounding and shooting accuracy helped the Lions secure the victory.
The Jimmy Kimmel L.A. Bowl gave back to the community by hosting a Day of Play for students at La Tijera Charter Academy. Student Athletes from Washington State and Fresno State visited the school to lead the youth through drills in various sports, including basketball, soccer, and football.
The UCLA Bruins women’s basketball team relied on second-chance points and a strong defense to snap the Women of Troy’s undefeated record with a 59-56 victory. The Bruins outrebounded USC on the offensive end 20-9. That led them to score 23 second-chance points, 11 more than USC.
