Chairwoman of Los Angeles Board of Supervisors Kathryn Barger stated that recent rise in positive cases can be linked to events that took place on July 4, results in spread show up 2-3 weeks after a person has contracted the virus. “We cannot stress this enough; we need everyone to do their part and adhere to all the guidelines public health officials have put in place to keep Los Angeles county safe.”

Statistics show an escalation in hospitalization, positive cases, and the overall community death rate is still in the double digits. Latest numbers surrounding coronavirus shared on July 13, reflected 13 additional deaths, all of them were between the ages of 65 and over, nine of the victims had underlining health conditions. This brings the total COVID-19 related deaths in the L.A. County to 3,822.

In order to maintain control over the spread of COVID-19, Los Angeles leaders took a “hard pause” and closed down beaches, piers, bike trails, and outdoor dining in order to limit access to large gatherings this past holiday weekend.

Friday, June 5, Public officials shared the latest news behind the COVID-19 Pandemic. Supervisor Soils acknowledged the hardest who have been hit are people of color. The death rate within African Americans is 31 deaths per 100,000 people. In comparison to the white community, there are 15 deaths per 100,000 people. If everyone shared the same statistics within the white ethnicity, Los Angeles would see 754 fewer deaths.

Wednesday, May 27, will mark the day retail stores across L.A. are available for indoor shopping since coronavirus took hold of the city. Permitted activities now include the gathering of faith-based services, all retail including those located in-doors can operate at 50% capacity. Dr. Ferrer provided the latest numbers surrounding coronavirus. As of Wednesday, May 27, there were 53 additional deaths, 35 of these individuals were between the ages of 65 and over.
