L.A. Care Provides 1,500 Free Backpacks to School Kids

L.A. Care Health Plan and Blue Shield of California Promise Health Plan will provide up to 1,500 free backpacks to school kids on Thursday, August 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., for an annual Back-to-School event at their Metro L.A. Community Resource Center (CRC), 1233 S. Western Ave near Pico Blvd.

Mothers In Action Celebrates Their 22nd Annual Back to School Health Fair

In memory of Mitchell’s late Mother, the founder of M.I.A., Brenda Marsh-Mitchell, they distribute their first 100 backpacks each year for the last 6 years to First AME Church for their foster care youth in honor of her passing and life of service.. “My Mother was the founder of Mother’s In Action, and she understood that children fail because they can’t hear, they can’t see, and don’t have the resources to have a successful school year. So she started this thing 22 years ago, said President Mitchell.”

Back-To-School Health & Family Festival

Aug. 5 Mother’s in Action will host their 19th Annual Back to School Health & Family Festival at Exposition Park, Saturday, August 5 from 9am- 1pm, serving children age 5-15. Come get information along with health screenings, hair cuts, school supplies, immunizations, LAUSD Mandatory Whooping Cough shots (must have immunization records). The event will be held in Exposition Park, Christmas Tree Lane located at 3911 S. Figueroa St. in Los Angeles, CA 90037
