Augustus Hawkins senior cornerback Robert Lewis signed to play football at Boise State University on February 3. He committed to the University in front of family and fellow teammates. “I just look forward to getting on that Boise State blue football field, contributing to their football team, and getting into the books and the academics,” said Lewis. The ceremony for Lewis was the first for Hawkins, football head coach Mil’Von James hopes the event become a tradition for the campus. “I couldn’t have made it without my teammates, my coaching staff, God, my family supporting me throughout thick and thin,”

After only playing in the Coliseum League for one season, the Augustus Hawkins Hawks Girls Basketball team (9-3 overall, 4-2 Coliseum League) have been excelling among their league opponents. The Hawks recently endured their third loss of the season after playing against View Park (11-4 overall, 4-0 Coliseum League). A steady chemistry among the players both on and off the court has made the Hawks a contending team in the Coliseum league. The Augustus Hawkins Hawks basketball team (4-2 overall) is a member of two different worlds. The 13-member squad is ranked with Foshay, West Adams and Animo Robinson high schools in the division IV Los Angeles City Section. The Coliseum League is the Hawks second world, playing against Division I Fremont and Dorsey along with Division II Locke High Schools. Head coach Tamao Kawai has coached for two years. During that time, he has noticed the improvement in returning players. “They’re buying into the character development that I try to instill in the basketball program,” said Kawai. “I’m really pushing them
The Dorsey Dons football team reached the CIF Division I Los Angeles city section semifinals before losing to top seeded Narbonne 0-42 on Friday. Dorsey reached the semi-finals for the first time since 2011, according to the CIF. The Dons came in third in the Coliseum League with a 3-2 record, beating cross-town rival Crenshaw high school in their last regular season game. Their first round post-season matchup was against 13-seed Carson, the school that fought Narbonne for the CIF Los Angeles City Section Championship last year. The Augustus Hawkins Varsity women’s volleyball team found itself fighting for redemption during the second round of the Coliseum League games. “Our record doesn’t necessarily show the abilities of the team,” said head coach Cheylinel Gaston. Gaston has been coaching the team since the inception of the program. The team consists of 12 players, six of whom are seniors. Six members played under the tutelage of Gaston during the previous season. Communication skills are strong among the team, according to senior setter Ciera King. “We know how to help each other because of last year,” said King. During the games
