Singleton Funeral Private, Peaceful

27 years after his Boys n the Hood fame, the family of John Singleton held a private funeral for him at Angelus Funeral Home, on Crenshaw Blvd., in Los Angeles, CA.  Singleton was a giant in the film and television industry but more importantly, he told the Black story and represented inner-city Los Angeles like no one had done before; all by age of 24. 

“Black Panther” Notches 2019 SAG Awards’ Top Honor

“Black Panther” snagged the most prestigious award at the 25th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Motion Picture, on Sunday night inside the Shrine Auditorium. Chadwick Boseman, who played the film’s leading man T’Challa, used Nina Simone’s song “To be Young, Gifted and Black” as a way to describe the groundbreaking win in his acceptance speech.

History of Black Entertainment from 1980-90s

On January 25, 1980, Bob Johnson launched Black Entertainment Television (BET). The network originally broadcasted for two hours a week as a block programming on Nickelodeon. It wasn’t until 1983 when BET became a full-fledged channel, where the lineup consisted of mostly music videos and reruns of popular Black sitcoms.
