Will Smith to Receive Generation Award at 2016 MTV Movie Awards
Global icon and former Movie Awards host Will Smith will receive the Generation Award during the 25th anniversary edition of the 2016 MTV Movie Awards, hosted by Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart.
The award show airs Sunday, April 10 at 8:00 PM outside the Warner Bros. backlot in Burbank, California.
Smith, the epitome of the modern movie star, broke onto the scene with television and movies like, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Independence Day and Bad Boys and he’s conquered box offices ever since..
“Will Smith and MTV have grown up together and share a very cool history,” said Executive Producer Casey Patterson. “MTV was a part of every phase of Will’s career and he has been a huge part of what defined the MTV culture from the beginning. From ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel Air,’ to his music and amazing movies, Will is the voice of a generation and not afraid to use it.”
Smith is a seventeen-time MTV Movie Award nominee and five-time winner, including two wins for Best Male Performance in I Am Legend and Ali.
The MTV Generation Award is the award show’s highest honor, acknowledging an actor who creates an amazing body of work throughout their career that speaks directly to the MTV audience.
Past recipients include Robert Downey Jr., Mark Wahlberg, Jamie Foxx, Johnny Depp, Reese Witherspoon, Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Sandra Bullock, Mike Myers, Tom Cruise and Jim Carrey.
Regina Hall to play Angie in the third Installment of ‘Barbershop: The Next Cut’
Actress Regina Hall joins an all star cast in director Malcolm D. Lee’s Barbershop Series, ‘Barbershop: The Next Cut’.
Hall will play hairstylist Angie, the woman in charge of the beauty shop in Calvin’s Palmer Jr. (Ice Cube) family owned Barbershop, where he Eddie (Cedric the Entertainer) and the rest of the gang must work together to save the shop and the neighborhood from gang members that roam the streets.
The Think Like a Man actress will star in Warner Bros. ‘Vacation’ sequel and in Screen Gems/Sony’s ‘When the Bough Breaks.’ ‘Barbershop: The Next Cut’ is due in theatres April 15.
Idris Elba is a killer tiger ‘Shere Khan’ in New Adventure ‘The Jungle Book’
Beasts of No Nation actor Idris Elba will star as a monstrous tiger named Shere Khan in ‘The Jungle Book,’ an upcoming fantasy adventure comedy film directed by Jon Favreau, written by Justin Marks, and produced by Walt Disney Pictures.
The film is a live-action/CGI reimagining of Walt Disney’s 1967 animated film of the same name. Elba is joined by a star-studded cast, Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Lupita Nyong’o, Scarlett Johansson, Giancarlo Esposito and Christopher Walken. Mowgli (Neel Sethi) is a human boy raised by the Indian wolves Raksha (Lupita Nyong’o) and Akela (Giancarlo Esposito) ever since he was a baby and brought to them by Bagheera the black panther (Ben Kingsley). When the fearsome scarred Bengal tiger Shere Khan (Idris Elba) threatens his life since man isn’t allowed in the jungle, Mowgli leaves his jungle home. Guided by Bagheera and Baloo the bear (Bill Murray), he sets out on a journey of self-discovery while evading the man-hunting Shere Khan. Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who do not exactly have his best interests at heart including Kaa (Scarlett Johansson) the python and the smooth-talking Bornean orangutan-resembling Gigantopithecus King Louie (Christopher Walken), who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly “red flower,” reports eurweb.com. The film is scheduled to be released in the Disney Digital 3D, RealD 3D and IMAX 3D formats on April 15.
Angela Bassett stars in her latest project ‘Close to the Enemy’
Veteran actress Angela Bassett has a multitude of credits to her name from television to film, working non-stop, Bassett has been cast in a period drama ‘Close to the Enemy.’ The drama is an upcoming British miniseries written and directed by Stephen Poliakoff, starring Jim Sturgess, Freddie Highmore, Charlotte Riley, Phoebe Fox, Alfred Molina, Lindsay Duncan, August Diehl, Alfie Allen and Robert Glenister. “Set in a bomb-damaged London hotel during the aftermath of World War II, “Close to the Enemy” is a thriller that follows British intelligence officer Captain Callum Ferguson, whose last task for the Army is to ensure that a captured German scientist, Dieter, hands over secret cutting-edge military technology crucial to national security. Callum employs unorthodox methods in his attempt to convince Dieter to work for the British, developing a friendship with him, which is soon threatened as the German’s involvement in the Nazi war machine may be more than it initially seems,” reports indiewire.com. Bassett plays Eva, the confident American jazz singer. The miniseries will be broadcast in the United Kingdom on BBC Two, and in the United States on Starz this year. Bassett recently starred in action thriller London Has Fallen with Gerard Butler and is a main character on FX’s American Horror Story, returning for Season 6.
