President Sandra Evers-Manly Talks About BHERC Complete Program for the 26th Annual African American Film Marketplace & S.E. Manly Short Film Showcase Oct. 23 to Nov. 29, 2020

Ms. Sandra J. Evers-Manly is president of the Black Hollywood Education and Resource Center (BHERC), and former president of the Beverly Hills/Hollywood NAACP in Los Angeles, California. Evers-Manly is the cousin of slain civil rights leader Medgar Evers. She is author of the book “Raided Up By Mrs. Manly and Her L’s” and ardent philanthropist and recent member of the 2020 Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Academy.

14th Annual Inner City Mini-Marathon & Health Festival

Jun. 3 On the heels of the 25th Anniversary of the LA Riots, City Lites takes pride in strengthening cultural ties between the Korean, Latino, and African American communities. Taking place at Jesse Owens Park, the day begins with a Mini-Marathon that consists of a 5k Walk & Roll, and a 23-mile Bicycle & Longboarding Tour. Following the Mini-Marathon, participants are invited to enjoy a free outdoor health festival that includes a vast Health Pavilion, Youth Village, Young Parents Village, Multiple Entertainment Stages, Healthy Food Options, Event Vendors and Community Resources. This event will take place at Jesse Owens Park

Frame by Frame: The Media’s Response to the LA Uprisings of 1992 At CAAM

Jun. 7 Twenty-five years ago, the world witnessed the brutality and subsequent violence that resulted from the 1992 Los Angeles Uprising. Join us at CAAM for a panel led by USC Professor of Communication, Josh Kuhn, with Kirk McCoy, LA Times photographer; Jim Newton, a professor and former LA Times reporter; and photographer Ted Soqui, who will discuss what it was like to cover the uprisings in LA at the height of the rebellion.
