The Department of Women of California’s Southwest Jurisdiction will host their Annual Women’s Convention starting Monday, August 8 through Friday, August 12, at New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ, 420 South Santa Fe Avenue in Compton.

Mother Joan Walker is the Supervisor of Women and president of the convention. Bishop Hillrie Murphy is the Jurisdictional Prelate. The theme is “Holy Women Committed to take this Violent and Immoral World by Force.”

“We are enthusiastically expecting the presence of the Lord at each service and want to invite everyone to come and worship the Lord with us,” said Bishop Murphy.

The pre-convention musical is set for Monday at 7:30 p.m., under the direction of Dr. Iris Stevenson McCullough and Minister Jamiel Lewis. Also, the Jurisdictional choir will sing each night.

The convention officially opens Tuesday morning with women of God praying for better homes, better communities, better world and worldwide revival. At 11 a.m., the Leadership Conference is in session led by District Missionary Lula Clark. On Tuesday night, Evangelist Valeria McAfee with bring the gospel message.

The Institute Hour takes place each day at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday’s activities include the Banner March representing Auxillaries in the church and Good Shepherd night with the Pastor Aide presentation to pastors.   District Missionary Lillie Benbow Jackson will bring the spoken word.

The Thursday morning service will feature symposiums and to empower and enrich the lives of women. Supervisor Joan Walker will deliver her official address on Thursday night and Bishop Murphy will deliver the gospel message on Friday night.

In addition, a luncheon is planned for Saturday, August 27, at 10:30 a.m., to celebrate the life and legacy of Mother Walker. The venue is the Doubletree Hotel, 21333 Hawthorne Blvd., in Torrance.
