Children’s lives matter! Many agree [but, not all]. “Our children are our future.” Right. The future belongs to all of us. Let’s entrust our future to God. He has the best life insurance. So, Dr. Jeanette, what are you getting at? “On Wednesday June 7th, a shoot-out near Compton. Three Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies came upon a heart-rending scene. A 4-year-old boy lay inside a car, with a gunshot wound to the head, who wasn’t moving or breathing.” Three quick thinking deputies: Art Gonzalez, Brian Reza and Sergio Jimenez made a split second decision and carried the little 4-year-old to the nearest police cruiser. Two of them raced to St. Francis Medical Center, following directions from a helicopter, as Gonzales cradled the child in his arms. Their actions were instantaneous, precise. Sheriff Reza has a 4-year-old, said, “It’s hard not to imagine your own child sitting in that situation.”

The family was on their way home when shots rang out, adding that the mother was “in a fog” as to what happened. “Sheriff Jimenez, expectant father too said the deputies had to wrestle with their own reactions and the need to move quickly when they discovered the wounded 4-year-old. “ Law enforcement deputies and officers care about their jobs and their responsibilities” [Dr.J”]. Jimenez said, “I think the public, they see us as a uniform and that we don’t have any emotions. Yeah, it affects us. But at the moment, when we arrived on the scene, you have to just block that out” negativism that may be held by some of the public.“ Police officers and deputy sheriffs are people too, who risk their lives as community workers. There are some who do not serve well, but that’s a minority who are being weeded out. What would we do without them? Call Ghostbusters?? Officers have to follow up on a slew of requests, people asking for help in all walks of life. Dr. Edward Kwon, an emergency room physician at St. Francis, said at Thursday’s news conference that “the deputies’ quick thinking might have saved the child’s life and could help spare him from permanent injury.” Great emotions run through parents minds and are grateful it was not their child. The truth of the matter is that it is only by grace that it was not their child. Captain Thatcher said a man described has been arrested and he declined to identify the boy who was shot, the suspect or the gangs involved in the dispute, or to say when or where the arrest took place. Obviously, the shooting was not aimed at the child, but the shooter or shooters probably never thought at all about a child being hit by a bullet. That is the very reason why they should stop going around shooting people in the first place. Stop senseless shooting guys!

It’s impulsive gratification, aimless, without reason. Oh’boy. It is just too bad. Let’s build schools, nurture our children and decrease prison population by investing in schools. (LA Times) Teach the children.
