The Southern Christian Leadership Conference of Southern California recently announced the schedule of activities planned this month to recognize the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

According to Pastor William D. Smart, Jr., SCLC-SC president/CEO, all events are open to the public and appropriate for people of all ages. Below is a list of some of the activities.

Saturday, Jan. 11

L.A. County Federation of Labor holds its annual MLK Day Breakfast from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the L.A. Convention Center, 1201 S. Figueroa St., in Los Angeles. For tickets or information, email [email protected].

SCLC-SC nurses will present “A Rejuvenating Day of Renewal” from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. The agenda includes massages, facials, self-care, stretch therapy and more. General admission is $55, one premium service is $85 and two premium services are $115. Call (310) 916-6302 for reservations.

Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles will perform at the “Tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. Concert” at 7 p.m., at the Skirball Cultural Center, 2701 N. Sepulveda Blvd., in L.A.  Admission is free but registration is required by visiting www.skirball.org.

Sunday, Jan. 12

SCLC-SC presents its annual gala at 5 p.m., at the LAX Sheraton Gateway, 6101 W. Century Blvd., in L.A. Tickets are $250 each.

Saturday, Jan. 18

The 40th Annual Kingdom Day Parade will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., along Martin Luther King, Jr.  Boulevard in South L.A. Admission is free.

Sunday, Jan. 19

Skirball Cultural Center will premiere the movie “You will not Replace US” at 3 p.m. A panel discussion will take place at 2 p.m. Admission is free.

The movie “Ain’t No Back to the Merry Go Round” will premiere at 6 p.m. at the AMC Theater at The Grove, located at 189 The Grove Drive in L.A.

Wednesday, Jan. 22

The Children’s Collective is the site of the MLK Food Giveaway from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., at 915 Manchester Ave., in Los Angeles.  To sign up, visit childrenscollective.org.

Saturday, Jan. 25

The 33rd Empowerment Congress Summit takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science, 1731 E. 120th St., in L.A. Admission is free.

Sunday, Jan. 26

The movie ‘Addiction of Hope” premieres at 2 p.m., at The Fine Arts Theatre, 8556 Wilshire Blvd., in Beverly Hills.
