The cancer awareness event manages to bring out hundreds of family and friends every year.

Relay For Life Baldwin Hills, the 24-hour cancer awareness event is back to promote education, health and awareness June 27-28, from 9am-9am at the Yvonne B. Burke Athletic Complex (Baseball Field). The event will once again come together to continue their life-changing 24-hour event.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is one of those worthwhile causes that do good in multiple communities throughout the nation. This organization exists to inform, educate and empower the community while supporting a good cause.

“Ours, the relay for life Baldwin Hills… serves the communities everywhere from Leimert Park to Ladera to South L.A. We have about 900 plus people that come, over a 150 cancer survivors come and walk the first lap,” stated Co-Lead Madeline Wilson.

“The goal of the event is to make an impact on your family, yourself and your community. The goal is you make one pledge of something you can do improve your health, your families or your community.”

The one important aspect of Relay For life is to celebrate, remember and fight back. At 9pm, the light of Luminaria bags glow in the darkness, lighting the evening. Each Luminaria has written on it the name of a loved one lost to cancer or one who is a cancer survivor as well as a personal heartfelt message. The Luminaria are designed to remind lap walkers about the lives cancer has touched

The walk is a 24-hour event that will take place at the Yvonne B. Burke Athletic Field (Baseball) at 5401 S. Fairfax in Los Angeles, CA.

“There’s food, there’s entertainment,” stated Wilson. “We have activities for children, we have organizations… coming out for information.”
