Studies show that Black women are more likely to experience postpartum depression than any other race, and are least likely to receive adequate treatment due to the lack of access to mental health resources, financial obstacles, systematic racism, among many other factors. When baby is born, mothers immediately transform into their maternal state, sometimes completely diminishing their personal needs for their child. Mothers of newborn babies’ loose hours of sleep each night ensuring their little ones are safe, and cared for. This can lead to mothers’ mental, emotional, and physical health deteriorating.
Jhene Aiko has created the perfect tool for mothers to get assistance and hopefully lessen stress with “Sleep Soul,” an R&B-inspired interpretation of the traditional baby sleep music genre.
Alongside R&B songstress Kehlani, the pair has released “Sleep Soul Volume 4” that will surely assist in both baby and parents having a great night’s sleep. The project was engineered to help parent and baby experience high-quality sleep by combining soothing R&B melodies along with white, pink, and brown noise soundscapes. Sleep Soul can be utilized as a great tool for parents to add to their list of ways to get their little ones to rest.

“Our goal is to create more variety and diversity in the baby sleep music space,” according to “Sleep Souls” website. “We aim to help the next generation of parents find the best and most effective methods for putting and keeping their babies to sleep.”
The 20 track project includes tracks that are tailored to secure adequate and sufficient sleep. From the white noise to the comforting melodies, the entire collection includes everything parents need. “Sleep Soul” has already generated over one million streams on Spotify and thousands of listeners on YouTube.
Jhene and Kehlani are both mothers who are no strangers to working long days and nights all while raising children.
“Sleep Soul has been a soothing tool in helping children and their parents get much-needed rest in their day-to-day lives. Wellness is essential for all to show up and support our loved ones in life,” Jhene noted.
“Sleep Soul is not just an aid for the Littles, but a powerful tool for the Moms as well. Rest and restoration is key,” Kehlani assured.
By implementing music into a nightly routine, parents can now have more time to unwind, therefore decreasing parental stress.
Both California natives, Jhene and Kehlani have been in the music industry since they were teenagers. Jhene is a six-time Grammy-nominated author, poet, songwriter, and mother of two. She is known for her mesmerizing, soothing voice and for infusing sound healing and crystal alchemy sound bowls in her music. With her album, Chilombo, alone having over three billion streams worldwide in 2020, three Grammy nominations, ‘Album Of The Year,’ certified with seven gold and platinum singles, topping the charts twice, and much more, the songstress is the perfect candidate to assist in “sweet dreams” for parents and their babies. She is a parent to a one year old son and is extremely passionate about providing a fresh, innovate, and inclusive option to the traditional lullaby/baby sleep music market.
Two-time Grammy Award nominee, multiplatinum, Bay Area-born, singer and songwriter Kehlani became a mother in 2019, which has been a huge inspiration for her music and led to her desire to help other new parents. Kehlani got her start in a group called “Poplyfe” when she was 14, where they auditioned for the sixth season of “America’s Got Talent,” eventually finishing in fourth place. After experiencing homelessness and adversity, Kehlani successfully released a series of mixtapes and three studio albums. Her will to persist even through trying times, is enough to show that when she puts her mind to something, she will stop at nothing to make sure it is accomplished.
